Crew Training Day: Our Team Gets Hands-On With James Hardie Siding

Some of our best days aren't spent on a customer's home. They're spent getting the whole Top Roofing & Siding crew together in one place, tools in hand, learning how to do the job even better.

We recently gathered the team for a hands-on James Hardie siding training. Installers who usually split up across job sites around Delaware worked side by side, traded tips, and practiced a new installation technique together. It was a great chance to sharpen our skills as a crew and make sure everyone is installing Hardie siding the same high-quality way.

Learning the Trim-First Method Together

The main lesson of the day was a change in installation order: put the trim up first, then hang the siding.

The crew walked through how setting the trim around windows, doors, and corners first gives every siding panel a clean edge to butt up against. Instead of working around openings and circling back to finish trim later, installers can measure, cut, and fit each panel to trim that's already in place.

Seeing it done as a team made the benefits easy to spot. The process flows with fewer interruptions, the lines where siding meets trim come out cleaner, and the whole installation moves along faster. For homeowners, that means less time with a crew at your house and the same careful finish.

A Team Refresher on Caring for Hardie Panels

While everyone was together, we also took time to go back over how the crew handles and stores Hardie panels on the job site. These habits protect the siding before it ever goes on a home:

  • Store panels flat on a level surface so they don't bow or warp
  • Keep them off the ground and away from standing water
  • Cover them to protect against rain and moisture
  • Carry and handle them carefully to avoid chipped edges and cracks

Panels that get wet, bent, or damaged before installation can cause problems down the road. When every member of the crew follows the same routine, those problems are prevented from the start.

Why We Bring the Crew Together

Our installers are the people homeowners see every day of a project, so investing in them is investing in your home. Training days like this keep the whole team on the same page, give newer crew members a chance to learn from experienced installers, and help everyone pick up techniques that make the work faster and better.

Homes across Sussex and Kent County deal with salt air, humidity, strong winds, and summer sun. A well-trained crew that installs siding the right way, every time, is what keeps your siding looking great and performing for years.
